Backlot Tour Water Tank

For my next Blender project, I picked another location from Disney-MGM Studios. This time I wanted to push the realism further, with greater levels of detail, more convincing textures, as well as rust, puddles, grime and other damage to bring it to life.

I started by roughly blocking out the main structures, based on an aerial view from before the area’s demolition. From there, I referred to multiple videos and photos to get the layout, details and textures correct.

To be as time efficient as possible, I chose four camera angles that best showed off the scene, and concentrated on just what would be seen.

The Earful Tower was a bit of a cheat, but it was too iconic to not include in the tank view.

Finally I used texture painting to add graphics and wear-and-tear to areas like the props, buildings and floor, and then procedural textures and puddles for added realism.
