The Lady Godiva Café

Since I moved to Coventry I’ve been fascinated by the Lady Godiva Café and its iconic round building. After the war, the Precinct area was rebuilt in the contemporary Festival style with the round café as a focal point, hovering like a spaceship in the centre. Downstairs was a takeaway window offering hot dogs and ice cream, with outdoor seating for sunny days.

Being a fan of architecture and midcentury design, I decided to recreate the building and the Lower Precinct area as it appeared in 1960, shortly after it opened.

Research

I started by gathering as much reference material as possible - from blueprints, to stock photos, historic films and even visiting the building personally to see details first-hand.
